With locations in both Shreveport and Bossier City, Holy Cross Villas offer affordable housing for senior citizens. Realized as a result of the vision of our former Rector, Father Kenneth Paul, the villas provide comfortable quarters to eligible tenants on an equitable basis to all applicants regardless of religion, race, or social background.
Holy Cross Hope House
Hope House offers day shelter to homeless people, where they can shower, do laundry, receive mail, and access telephone service. It is a part of the continuum of services available from Centerpoint, Shreveport's "one-stop shop" for people in need.
In-church Ministries
Holy Cross offers several places for our members to be involved in the life of the parish: The Altar Guild, Choir, Acolytes, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers make possible worship services enhanced by the gifts and spirituality of many people of all ages. Our Episcopal Church Women (ECW) Building and Grounds Committee, Christian Education Committee, Worship Committee, Care Committee and Parish Growth and Development Committee ensure that the life of the parish addresses the changing needs of the parish.
Northwest Cluster, Northern and Central Louisiana Interfaith
As an institutional member of Interfaith, Holy Cross cooperates across denominational and racial barriers to improve the quality of life for all area citizens. Initiatives include extension of public transportation, housing code enforcement in all neighborhoods, and improvement of public schools.
Soldiers of Compassion Outreach Ministry
Holy Cross provides substantial financial support to the Soldiers of Compassion, an organization devoted to assisting at-risk youth after normal school hours, and focusing on the special needs of young people who have been adjudicated by the juvenile justice system.
Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission
Homeless people (individual or families) requiring immediate housing, food, and medical assistance can receive it at the rescue mission, for which Holy Cross provides substantial economic support.
The Fuller Center for Housing
Following Hurricane Katrina, Millard Fuller committed to build 60 houses in the Allendale neighborhood of Shreveport. Initially, these houses were intended for people who had evacuated South Louisiana. The opportunity to own a home has been extended to members of the Shreveport-Bossier City community. To date, 42 houses have been built. The work of churches and organizations in our community through The Fuller Center and Community Renewal International is transforming the Allendale neighborhood!
The Care Committee
Members of the Care Committee visit parishioners who are home bound or in the hospital and extend the care and love of Holy Cross to them. In cases of pastoral need such as death or surgery or long illness, the Care Committee takes a meal cooked by a member of the parish.
Liturgical Ministers
Many of our parishioners serve as Ushers, Acolytes, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers in our services of worship. Eucharistic Ministers receive training both at Holy Cross and in a diocesan workshop in order to be licensed by the Bishop for their ministry. Serving in worship is very rewarding personally and of great value in the beauty and depth of our worship of God.
